Seit September 1996 fokussiert und spezialisiert sich das irpd – institute for rapid product development der inspire AG – auf die additive Fertigung. Mit praxisnaher Forschung und Entwicklung sowie Dienstleistung stellt irpd einen engen Bezug zur Industrie sicher und bietet Studierenden und der Wirtschaft modernsten Technologietransfer. Begriffe wie „Rapid Prototyping“, „Rapid Manufacturing“ und neu „Additive Manufacturing“ wurden mitgeprägt und neue Anwendungen entwickelt.
