206 Designerinnen und Designer hatten sich für den Eidgenössischen Wettbewerb für Design 2007 beworben. 25 Werke / Projekte von 31 Designerinnen und Designer prämierte die Eidgenössische Designkommission unter dem Vorsitz von Lorette Coen in der Schlussrunde des Wettbewerbs. Die Preisträgerinnen und Preisträger können nun zwischen einem Geldpreis – 20’000 Franken -, einem Praktikum oder Atelieraufenthalt im Ausland wählen.

Grafikdesign ist in diesem Jahr sehr stark vertreten. Nahezu die Hälfte der Preise geht an Designerinnen und Designer, welche mit ihrer grafisch-gestalterischen Leistung überzeugten. Die Bandbreite ist gross: von bereits etablierten Büros mit Publikationsaufträgen von grossen Kulturinstitutionen oder Verlagen bis hin zu experimentellen Arbeiten, welche im Rahmen einer Diplomarbeit an einer Hochschule entstanden sind. Am 9. Mai 2007 veranstaltet der Entertainment Media Verlag zum ersten Mal LARA – Der Deutsche Games Award im Rahmen einer Gala im Hotel “Bayerischer Hof”. Was für Film und Musik der
Oscar, die DIVA, der Grammy oder der ECHO ist LARA für die Interactive-Entertainment-Branche. Circa 400 Gäste, darunter Prominente aus Film, Fernsehen und Politik, werden die LARA NIGHT mit
Unterstützung von Hauptsponsor AOL und Medienpartner stern zu einem hochkarätigen Ereignis machen.

LARA – Der Deutsche Games Award ist ein Jurypreis, der in den drei Kategorien Programm Awards, Synergy Awards und Hall of Game vergeben wird. Für die Moderation der LARA NIGHT, der

MONTEHERMOSO ART AND RESEARCH
Grants 2007

The Centro Cultural Montehermoso Kulturunea presents the seventh edition of the grants Support for Creation and Research in Contemporary Art and Thought. This initiative, promoted by Vitoria-Gasteiz Town Council, aims to facilitate the production of the selected projects, as well as their dissemination and exhibition. In order to make this possible, the grants offered are aimed at Artistic Creation, Curatorship and Research. Authors of any nationality, regardless of age, can present their projects individually or collectively.

ARTISTIC CREATION
Awarding of 8 grants for unpublished art projects which are in the production phase or which must be produced during the extension of the grant. Each project grant will not exceed €10,000, divided into the following items: €7,000, maximum amount for the production of the project, and €3,000 for fees of work production and copyright. The Grant includes an exhibition in the space of the Montehermoso Cultural Centre, within the 2008 programme.

CURATORSHIP
Awarding of 1 grant for a unpublished curatorial project including the participation of at least four contemporary creators. The proposal must be under production or must be produced during the extension of the grant. The selected project will be allocated €6,000 for fees of curatorial tasks and copyright.

The exhibition project award will not exceed €15,000. This amount must include the expenses caused by work production, insurances and transport, trips and stays of the selected artists and curators. Moreover, it must include the expenses caused by the exhibition mounting that cannot be included within infrastructures, technical equipment or human resources of the Montehermoso Cultural Centre.

RESEARCH
Awarding of 3 grants for research projects related to Contemporary Art and Thought. Within this section, at least one of the grants will be aimed at projects related to the development of a Historiography of Feminist Art in Spain. The award for the Research project development will not exceed €9,000. This amount includes the researcher’s fees, as well as the expenses caused by the project development. The Montehermoso Cultural Centre reserves the right to publish the results of the research.

The 2nd Singapore Design Festival will be held from 28 November to 8 December 2007. The Festival will be a multifaceted experience focusing on the design process and the conceptualisation of ideas. The Festival activities will take place around Singapore downtown, fanning out to other areas all over Singapore. Nationalbibliothek erstellt Liste mit Klassikern.

Eine der bedeutendsten Bibliotheken der Welt, die Library of Congress, hat Videogames zu einem wertvollen Kulturgut ernannt. Die Verantwortlichen stimmten dem Antrag eines Teams um Kurator Henry Lowood zu, einen Games-Kanon zu erstellen. Dies berichtet die New York Times. In diesen Kanon wurden nun die zehn wichtigsten Videogames aller Zeiten aufgenommen. “Die Erstellung dieser Liste ist ein Zugeständnis daran, dass digitale Games kulturelle und historische Bedeutung haben”, sagte Lowood, der die Wissenschafts- und Technologiesammlung der Stanford University betreut, auf der Games Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Die Sammlung und Bewahrung von Videogames erweise sich jedoch als schwierig. So würde sich die Hardware, auf der Games gespielt werden so schnell ändern, dass eine Vielzahl der Games nur noch über Emulator-Computerprogramme gespielt werden können, die jedoch gegen Kopierschutzrechte verstossen würden. Das Team um Lowood ernannte folgende Spiele zu den Klassikern aller Zeiten: Spacewar (1962), Star Raiders (1979), Zork (1980), Tetris (1985), SimCity (1989), Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990), Civilization I/II (1991), Doom (1993), die Warcraft Serie (seit 1994) und Sensible World of Soccer (1994). The ESA Research Network for the Sociology of the Arts is organizing its 8th meeting at the end of March 2007 in Lüneburg (Germany), with additional events in near-by Hamburg. The main conference venue will be at the University of Lüneburg, close to the medieval old town. The conference will feature keynote lectures, plenary discussions, paper sessions, workshops, and round tables. Following the triad theme of the conference, “Creativity, Support, and Sustainability” , we will put an emphasis on those issues that are of sociological interest within arts worlds but also relate to those powerful developments in economy, ecology and ethic contexts on the macro level that influence, manipulate or determine production, content and forms, distribution and reception of the arts
